Our first project will be .... macro.
your subject can be anything at all from a flower to a bug or food, household items, wildlife, or an unusual shaped stone, like i said anything at all, just post your results (with settings included) here within the next 2 weeks, whereupon we will discuss and/or help you out with any aspect of your shot, answer questions and try to give you constructive critique to help you improve your photography

you don't need a macro lens Kathy, you have the canon 350D (Rebel) right? you only have to use the macro setting on the dial Very Happy

I'll be the first here lol
I took this one late this afternoon.

Let me have it! hahaha

The rose is a small one called Hot Chocolate. The petals are almost like velvet.

I have amended my original post to ask you to include your settings, apologies for the inconvenience.
Jan this is a lovely shot of the rose and your colour is great, as is the focus, i was however looking for shots in really close, showing detail that you don't normally see, a suggestion to make this even more interesting would be to include a small droplet of water which would magnify a part of the petal, you don't have to show the whole rose but even if this were cropped right to the edge of the petals it would bring us closer and show more detail

lol so i did, camera was set to the macro setting and i believe the shutter speed was 1/500 and the f/stop was f5.6 no flash and ISO was 200, btw the beetle was huge, it would easily have spanned my palm if i had been brave enough lol
