These are both good captures Kathy, Maybe you played a little much with the first one, but it's still very nice. #2 is great, so sharp around the eyes. woo hoo!

Both are good compositionally Kathy.
I like the effect you are getting on the skin in the first one and the tilted head and expression in #2 is superb.
The only niggle I have is the murky background colour, it is grey not black and you can see the creases in it.
