I just tried some jewelry shots for practice (for my wee job on Sunday)and to see if i'm doing ok or if i need to change anything, any thoughts are appreciated shot at f/20 and shutter speed 1/400 with 1 light either side of the tent and one at the front directly on the jewelry for a bit of sparkle. tripod and manual focus used also used the timer to aviod handshake blurring

#1 has a lot to the aspects of the stone...but, you seem to be losing some of the detail on the chain...it's a little blown.

#2...your not getting a whole lot of sparkle from the stone...maybe, if it was shoot from a different angle. Here's a ring I shot for a client to sell on eBay.

Jewelry Ring1_1165782277

Jewelry Ring2_1165782279

#3 I like it...but, I think the pendent part should be facing me and again some more sparkle from it.

Hope this helps...

I think, that's all it should take! Look at it as if you were buying it...first, you want to be able to see the detail, second...every girl wants to see the sparkle!! Pretend Sandy is walking you through Tiffany's.... Jewelry Heat Jewelry Heat

Here's something funny...it didn't even register with me, when looking at the first picture of the ring that the stone was blue. All of sudden, when I looked at the second one...the blue really stands out!

I definitely like the #2 shot of the ring better. And the necklace is much better...better detail on both the chain and the pendent.

The first thing that I noticed in all three pictures was the background/base in them.

The first one has a distracting light band going through it and the others the reflective surface is dusty.

I would use a matt black material as a backdrop, velvet etc, for the hanging pendant and do a series of pics at different setting to see what the best exposure will be.

The reflective surface is a good idea and a bit of cleaning with an anti static cloth should help clear some of the dust on it.

Another thing you might want to try is placing the jewellery on someones finger/neck.

It will help the prospective buyer see what it would look like on. :)

Oh...alright then, don't place them on someones finger/neck.

Women....funny creatures. Rolling Eyes

How about on those stands they use in a jewellery shop then?

(Stewart skulks away to the sound of the Funeral March)

thanks Stewart, just had an exciting phonecall from the prospective client, as i wouldn't take any money from them for this job, (i just wanted the exposure) they have offered to buy me an EZ jewellery kit see here
it's gonna cost them approx £147 sterling or $289 USD, i'm flabbergasted Very Happy they reckon they would have paid a pro a lot more than that and feel that they can then come back and ask again in future

Result.

Keep trying different exposures and compositions and post them.

With the input from all on here the final pics should be superb. :)
