Kathy what settings did you use for these? i know after i took Robin's class i rarely used anything but manual, (and the dog shots were always blurred) but i've found for shots of the dogs the sport mode usually gets it spot on for me especially now we have Skye

You have the Rebel XTi, Try using TV mode and ISO 400

TV mode is what the boys use for the fast jets. I have been trying it and the shutter speed is fast woohoo.

Kathy - the EXIF helps - to me the Shutter Speed was too slow on #1 and #2 and needed to be closer to 1/ 250 sec or 1/ 320 sec (indeed 1/500 wouldn't hurt)

I usually use TV (Time Value / shutter speed) mode when taking shots with movement - as Jan says it really helps with clarity.

As John rightly points out, the shutter speed is a little to slow to freeze the movement.

Don't be afraid to use a faster shutter speed and a small aperture.
With the camera on continous focus it should be fine.

Continous focus ?? Is that rapid fire ??

You should have 2 options with your cameras focusing.

1. single shot focus, so as soon as you push down on the shutter button the camera locks on the subject until you release it.

Or

2. Continuous autofocus where the cameras focus is always active and locks on to what ever is in the focusing zone, until you half depress the shutter button at which point it locks.
